Sherwood Humane Animal Services needs your help in caring for a dog with a bullet lodged in its jaw. They say someone dropped off the female chocolate Labrador retriever Wednesday after it had been found abandoned. Noticing the dog may have an infection, a veterinarian conducted x-rays that revealed a bullet wound to the lower jaw. It's unknown how long the bullet has been there. In order for the dog to have a fully functional jaw, the dog will need surgery costing more than $2,000.00. Her surgery is schedule for Monday, Oct. 15th, and people have already donated $1500 to help pay for her care.
Those interested in donating money or adopting the dog can contact Sherwood Humane Animal Services weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m, saturdays 12 noon - 4p.m. Adoption hours are 11am - 5pm weekdays. The phone number is 834-2287. Sherwood Humane Animal Services, 6500 North Hills Blvd., Sherwood, AR 72120
Email: sac@ci.sherwood.ar.us Please make checks payable to City of Sherwood, and in the "memo" line add "Franny's fund".
The Sherwood Shelter is filled with dedicated employees who love and care for animals. They have one of the lowest euthanasia rates in the country and they have been nationally recognized. The shelter always needs aluminum cans to help fund extra projects that their budget does not cover and pet supplies. Feel free to drop by and visit them. This month they are having their annual volunteer drive Partners Auxiliary Working for the Sherwood Shelter (P.A.W.S). Drop by today and see what you can do to help them help the animals.

I went by the shelter today and dropped of a donation they have almost reached their goal of raising money for this sweet dog. The bullet is still lodged in her jawbone, bone fragments are in her tongue. The dog is on a liquid diet until she begins recovery after the surgery. They have found a specialist to perform the surgery on Monday.
Please keep the donations coming, they need our help. Any money that exceeds the amount needed for surgery will help to replenish their medical budget.
The pooch has been featured on Fox 16 news, KTHV Channel 11 news and was on the front cover of the Arkansas Secton of the Democrat Gazette (Sat. October 13th).
