Sherwood Parks/Open Spaces Promoted for Residential Developments

The Sherwood Planning Commission will recommend to the City Council that area developments have parks and open space set aside. Details are in the story in the Arkansas Leader: http://www.arkansasleader.com/2008/02/top-story-sherwood-wants-parks-built.html

Sherwood Parks and Recreation Director Sonny Janssen is working with a company to maximize the use of Sherwood's city parks. A article was recently published in the Sherwood Voice regarding a 10-Year Sherwood Parks Plan. To read the article, please click on the following link:

I vote to keep it a golf course.

To me, we have to re-open this golf course.
To have it be a "New York Central Park" theme, will cost a lot more money to make it available for picnic, a walking trail, all for free to the publc.
If we spend just $200,000. to bring the golf course greens back and open it to the public as a public course/semi private golf course and charge a green fee that would bring money into the city pot.
We could have different degrees of membership to use the golf course. Some people would pay a yearly fee for full use, others could pay as they use the golf course and pool.
Anyway, re-opening the facility as a golf course and public pool, PLUS having the building to lease/rent for special occasions would make money and be available to every citizen within the Central Arkansas areas.
I vote to re-open for all citizens and charge according to their membership, but everyone could have full use of the entire amenities offered.

Looks like people agree to condemn. Now if the city would clean up the property.

I thought the whole point of saving this treasure was to preserve "green space" instead of "saving a golf course". Re-opening as a golf course will take alot more money than $200k.

I think that this land will be best preserved as a park, dog park, water park, walking trails, picnic area and multi-use facility.

There is a great need to improve the condition of many Sherwood city parks. They all could use some updates.

Many cities have gone to splash water parks instead of pools so that every child can participate and play safely. There are special needs children in Sherwood that need a place to enjoy just like every other child.
