City Council Meets - ??? on horizontal grinder for trees and yard waste

Since November 2006, Sherwood Alderman Steve Fender has been pondering the purchase and gathering information for a horizontal grinder for the City of Sherwood:

Fayetteville has been using a yard waste grinder for several years. See a photo of the model they use at this link:

At the city council meeting Tuesday evening (04/28/2008, 7:00 p.m.), Fender raised the question again as a lease/purchase. Where would this equipment be placed? There was mention of Sherwood Forest and Trammel Road. The equipment is very large and noisy. See a photo at the link below:

Nobody seemed to have an answer for the location or the requirements for the equipment, and a survey for the city-owned swampy acreage on Trammel Road could not be located prior to the council meeting.

Mayor Hillman announced that ALL OF THE FUNDING has been secured for the entire Brockington Road improvement project.

Council members approved funding of a comprehensive study of Sherwood Parks. Some Sherwood ballparks should be operational in the next two to three weeks, according to Sonny Janssen. Sylvan Hills seniors have returned to the Sylvan Hills High School.

Aldermen voted on several other matters, including the annexation of Gravel Ridge, and updating of the city's ordinance on vicious and aggressive dogs. See the meeting agenda at:

THE ANNEXED GRAVEL RIDGE AREA WAS SPLIT INTO WARD 1 (WEST OF 107) AND WARD 2 (EAST OF 107).

FOUR (4) ALDERMEN SEATS ARE UP FOR ELECTION THIS YEAR. THE FILING PERIOD FOR SHERWOOD MUNICIPAL CANDIDATES BEGINS APRIL 30, 2008 AND ENDS MAY 19, 2008 at NOON.

A grinder? What is Alderman Fender thinking? I know it would be nice to have, but it sure isn't a priority. How about making the widening of Brockington Road a priority, along with adding sidewalks in neighborhoods that are 40+ years old, improving lighting and curbside recycling?

How much does the city actually spend a year to dispose of the yard waste? I believe the Alderman have been asking about a Contract and one hasn't been produced. Do they have a written contract? If so, what are the disposal charges and where? I don't think the landfill in Jacksonville handles yard waste? Where does it go from Sherwood?
