No Ball Fields for Sherwood's Kids??

Why aren't the Sherwood fields ready? They have had ample time and offers for assistance. The city is NOT placing its focus on the citizens' needs. See the story at KTHV:

"We just need some help out here," he said. "It is just so pitiful. Pitiful! And a shame." Quoting Charles Evans of New Orleans.

Sherwood Aldermen should start paying attention to the needs of children and all citizens throughout the city, not just certain areas and their pet projects.

The aldermen have very little control over Mayor Janssen. Sure he's just a department head, but he thinks he runs the city.

Ask mayor-in-name Hillman how many of those beautiful old trees in front the city's new golf course she authorized Mayor Janssen to cut down. Ask her if he even submitted to the elected authority of the city to ask if they should or could be cut down.

Go back to when the tornado hit the ballpark.

When the citizens asked to come help clean-up the ballpark to get it going. Janssen kept them out. Of course part of that was so he could cut down a couple trees that weren't damaged and then claim they were removed due to damage. The man hates trees. Cleaning up leaves and mowing around them is too much work.

Mayor Janssen further claimed that the city's insurance wouldn't permit them to clean up. The HQ for the city's insurance is located next to Dickey-Stephens Park, a couple persistent phone calls would have resolved it.

The park is playable with temporary fencing and temporary fencing has been used out there before.

Mayor Sonny apparently has bitten off way more than he can chew between ruining the Rec Center by moving the day care there, trying to run city festivals and seeking trees to cut. His staff probably had to take extra time off after putting in all those extra hours to put out a whooping three signs to promote Sherwood Fest.

I drove out to the baseball field yesterday to see for myself.

What I saw were three men working and making improvements. I agree, the fields could be played on with the temporary fencing in place.

I is NOT Baseball Season and I feel like by March 2009, the kids will be playing. I believe they had a lot of play on the fields even after the storm this spring. I didn't see any Big Problem.

As for trees, I am totally against removing any Hardwood tree that is standing for any reason. The one at the Golf Course, I believe, were Pine Trees.

I have to admit, I kind of like the ability to see the Clubhouse from Hwy 107. It looks clean and hopefully they will have the property us and running by spring. There is still more work to be done.
